Fishing in New Zealand is recognised as world class, both fresh water and sea. West Coast rivers teem with trout, and during the whitebait season you can try your hand at catching a classic Coast delicacy.
Easy kayaking is available on the Pororari River, flowing serenly through breathtaking limestone cliffs and lush, nikau dominated lowland forest. More advanced paddlers will find the West Coast to be a heaven of steep, challenging rivers.
Visit Punakaiki and see the blow-holes and pancake rocks, then enjoy coffee or an ice cream, and plenty of locally crafted items including jewelry and art work.
